Instead of speculating about how much resources it takes to run SA-MP, there is a former developer here who worked on the website. Why don't you ask him? Littlewhitey was paying for 2 dedicated servers to run sa-mp.com - and this is when the mod was half as popular. How was he able to pay for 2 servers to run sa-mp.com? Because we were plugging the hell out of gta-host.

There are over 2000 servers announcing themselves once every 5 minutes (to a php script). And since you appear to be a bit retarded Sacky, I'll do the math for you - that's 576000 hits a day, just from servers announcing. Then there's over 60,000 hits from people accessing the server list, 50,000 forum hits, 10,000 download hits, 12,000 main page hits. And you can run all this on $30? Go f**k yourself.

The only reason you write these stupid bot plugins is because you're incapable of programming anything of any worth. You're another person who is jealous of SA-MP's success and you yourself are trying to leverage it by releasing a bot plugin. Maybe I should just remove the entire plugin system to get rid of people like you. Not to mention you wouldn't have gotten anywhere without help from Jacob.

There were servers on official that were listed for free and were taking donations from the players. No one complained about this. But all of a sudden if SA-MP decides to accept donations we're "profiteering"? If you want to start accusing people of "profiteering" why don't you start looking at the server hosts and the servers accepting donations?

There are servers on official still that are not paying. There are also servers listed by server hosts who I've given special rates to. I can tell you the end figure is not much (wouldn't pay 1/2 weeks rent, thanks dipshit). Programmers who have worked on SA-MP (spookie, aru, Y_Less and myself) get paid $30-$50 an hour for their work. Do you know what that means? If you added up all the time these developers have spent on SA-MP and worked it out as a salary, there would be $500,000 worth of work done on this project.

And here you are pissing about $200? How about I give you $200 to go away and never come back (not a joke)?

The GamerX community has shown nothing but disrepect to us, even after I gave them a free official listing to promote their server. In this case I would ask that you all leave SA-MP aswell. I'm not providing any services to GamerX members or servers. If you don't accept this I will make attempts to block you from accessing sa-mp.com and the master list services and any further SA-MP downloads.

I said this same thing to LVP: don't disrespect us and expect something in return. It will never happen.

This is worth a lot more than $200, it's worth a lot more than $10,000 it's worth more than SA-MP. I didn't start this mod thinking someone would try to assasinate my character and then a community of players would support him.

So I quit SA-MP for good. And yes, I'll still make sure GamerX is never able to run my software, even if I have to dedicate 5 years to it. And Sacky, you're not the only person who is capable of character assasination

I hope you're all happy. sa-mp is officially shutdown for good. It's not just some thing this time. It's gone. He deleted everything on the webserver and has no backups.

Real life is more important than the childish games you play. When you attack someone personally and affect their future careers then you should go to hell. This just goes to show how much he truly cares about the SA:MP community, I ask you, what reason did he have to shut down SA:MP apart from the satisfaction of his own vanity?

SA-MP is gone. And I know GamerX would like to take all the credit for it, but that's not the case. Sacky is one of about 10 people who have been waging personal attacks against me over the past few months. You might have noticed I changed my nick to 'sampdev' a couple of weeks ago. Well this was because several youtube videos were popping up labeling me as a homosexual and a few other things. These videos were made by people I've never ever spoken to. They claim it's "Free Speech" to attack someone's character.

So I am worried about personal attacks against me on the web. This is the first one that has involved claims of fraud and extortion - which is a very serious claim. But these attacks against me will persist for a long time after SA-MP is gone and I'm not going to hang about to see if they get any worse. So damo was right in what he said, I can't afford to stay.

Anyway, I figured out the real extortionists are right here on GamerX. The character assasination attacks against me were encouraged by GamerX staff in the hope that GamerX might get their official listing back on the SA-MP master list. Game-monitor shows that since GamerX lost their official listing, the server population has been slowly declining. This would have eventually lead to a slow in growth of the community.

This isn't much different than Netzeek's attacks, just the attack method used was different.

I don't want GamerX to take the blame for SA-MP going down.

Sacky managed to put the nail in the coffin by annoying me, but there was a lot other things going on too like attacks on the servers (including our own server), people trying to find exploits all the time, cheaters etc. It's just pathetic. This was a free mod.

Of course, people using our program and spitting in our face at the same time doesn't help.

Back to the original subject on official servers donating (the real story):

I would get nagged by server owners to add their server to official 2-3 times a day. I got sick of this so I gave the task to the beta team to deal with it. But that still didn't stop people asking - and I still had to do the IP changes. I didn't have any problem doing official listings for people who had done things for us, like Cam and littlewhitey. So I thought a way for people to give something back to us in return for an official listing would be to donate. And this was working out good at first, I added a home page text link to the deal so server owners could get some traffic to their website and regain some of the money spent on the donation. Then all the official servers got attacked using trivial DoS attack tools made for SA-MP and I didn't really feel good about them giving me money and their server being taken offline, so I refunded them. Our website also got DDoS'ed for about 3 hours. I fixed the exploit that the attackers were using to attack the original donating servers and released the 0.2.2 R2 server. Since the text link was removed from the deal I reduced the amount servers would have to donate to become official. All was going well until I noticed the thread I created in Server Owners was getting out of control, to the point where someone named [V]**ina was posting cartoon pornography. Many of the people complaining about the donating for official were from this server. Since they weren't acting rationally and resorted to personal attacks against me "Kye is crazy" etc, some of them were banned. Then I came over here and saw this thread with Sacky attacking me and knew this was where the problem started.

I really am disappointed to see all this disrespect. While I can understand many of your feelings, there is absolutely no reason you should feel the need to blatently try and ruin someone's character. No reason at all. Look at all Kye did for you. He spent years on creating a multiplayer game. He pays hundreds of dollars per month to keep the services going (as far as I know we have three dedicated servers). He fends off DDoS attacks and many other similar attacks on a near-daily basis, he provides a mod, for free, in which he made in his own free time, and when he asks for a little support you all feel the need to do nothing but ruin his character, and at the end of the day, ruin everyone's fun.

Many of you brought up the fact that we could get web hosting for $5-25/month. That will not work! We can't work through a webhosting company for several obvious reasons. Our account would be terminated almost immidiately because of all the different kinds of attacks we get, it would eat up all their available network bandwidth, and/or overwhelm the box to the point where it affected other customer's websites. Not only that, but because of the fact that the webservers are shared, there is a major security risk. We are not about to upload source code to compile servers, while knowing there are security risks while doing so. This is only a couple of examples, but I could go on if you like, but for the sake of time, I can not.

So, here's the final point: How do you feel in ultimately bringing down the entire community? Who do you think you are? You have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scense and before you say anything else I suggest you do your research and make sure you have a good reason behind everything you say. You all are seriously acting like a bunch of little kids. Grow the fuck up and stop being so selfish and self-centered. I hope you appreciate what you have done. Apparently it's too much to ask for a little bit of help from a community that has done NOTHING for us.
